However with the amount of talent that will be taking the floor in the state, we fully understand why fans, coaches and players are already excited. Let’s take a look at some of the dynamic duos that we feel will have big time seasons this year.
Village Christian Senior 2020 Guards Zavian Mclean & Justin Thomas: One of the top returning duos in the state, they came up short of their goal last season, losing in the state championship game to Carmel Christian. Both players have seen their recruitment pick up some speed over the last few months and we expect them to flourish next season. Mclean is a player with an extremely high motor that is just as good of a defender as he is a scorer, don’t be surprised to see an Ivy League school jump in and offer. Thomas picked up an offer from GA tech in the spring and has interest from quite a few programs at the MM/HM levels. He’s a quiet young man but can get you a lot of buckets in a short span of time, he has good size and wingspan for a player that can play at the 2/3 spot.
New Life Christian 2020 Guard Dahaun Jones & 2021 Pharrell Davis: NLCA will have a totally different look to them this season as they had some players transfer out but this will open the door for a few returners to step in and shine. Jones is one of the fastest players that we got the chance to see from end to end last season, while Davis has the ability to knock down shots from three point land once he gets it going. Expect for these two to be some of the main contributors for this team, if they can embrace the leadership role, it will only help their season overall.
Freedom Christian 2020 PG Manrique Alverado & Forward Aymeric Toussaint: With a new coach and numerous new faces on their roster, it will be interesting to see how things play out for FCA this year. The two main returners in Alverado and Toussaint should take on a leadership role as they have already been through a season with of one of the toughest conferences in the state and making a deep run into the state playoffs. Don’t be surprised to see these two in some pick and roll situations as both have euro style games as they are both from overseas.
Independence HS 2020 PG Anthony Allen & 2021 Forward Omarion Bodrick: Another duo that has played together quite a bit as they have played on the same AAU squad with DTA Elite. They have outstanding chemistry and both bring different things to the game that is beneficial not only for their teams but also has helped them boost their recruitment. Allen brings a lot of what you want from a player at the PG spot, he knows how to run a team by being a facilitator but can get a bucket on his own when needed. Bodrick brings multiple attributes at the Forward spot that you have to like, he’s a finisher, shot blocker and has shown some flashes of how good he could possibly be.
Athens Drive 2020 Guards Lawrence Frost & AJ Thompson: They’ve played together not only during high school, but also in AAU and summer league so they have quite a bit of natural chemistry. Frost is the type of guard that uses his strength to get where he wants, creating and embracing contact in the paint when he scores as well as stepping outside and knocking down shots. Thompson is more of a player that uses his craftiness and perimeter brilliance to get the job done. The combination of his ballhandling skills, quick first step and outstanding shooting makes things difficult for defenders. He’s picked up some interest over the spring and summer and could see that interest turn in to offers if he stays focused and locked in.
