So here is our Grassroots Player Of The Year, Honorable Mentions, and ‘Don’t Forget About’ for the senior class:
Player Of The Year
Jalen Terry (2020, 6’0″, PG, Flint Beecher, The Family)
The Michigan State commit was a beast all spring and summer. He showed incredible start stop speed and a jaw dropping vertical leap. Terry can play at such a fast pace, yet under control at all times. He was one of the best perimeter defenders in the country, forcing turnovers at a high rate. Terry had many highlights throughout grassroots season, including a 30 point game against Boo Williams in the Peach Jam. Terry was named Nike EYBL Most Improved Player. He was alao on the Nike EYBL 3rd Team. He averaged 19.1ppg, 5.6apg, and 4.5rpg.
Honorable Mention
Isaiah Jackson (2020, 6’10”, PF, Waterford Mott, The Family)
Jackson was one of the top defensive threats and rim protectors in the country. He brought energy to The Family on both ends of the floor. Jackson glides in the open floor, then explodes at the rim. He’s a leaper with an impressive wingspan. Jackson was named the Nike EYBL Dallas Defensive Player of the Session. He was also named Honorable Mention Nike EYBL Dallas. One of Jackson’s best games was a 20 point and 9 rebound performance in a win over the NY Lightning at Nike EYBL Atlanta.
Carlos Johnson (2020, 6’7″, SF, Benton Harbor, The Family)
I’m not sure what Johnson needs to do to be considered a top 100 prospect in the country. Well, in my opinion, he is one. Johnson was a 3 level scorer at the Peach Jam, where he showed a much improved jumper. At the Peach Jam, Johnson averaged over 15ppg and almost 8rpg. Johnson was excellent throughout the Nike EYBL. He had a 29 point game against the Oakland Soldiers and a 23 point game against Team United.
