After the summer season concluded, our team believes the 2020 class will have some players surprise a lot of people across the state. With that being said, here are 5 new guys to know on our list.
Kobe Simmons (Talladega)- Simmons is a reigning class POY and should’ve been added to our list much sooner. This kid is a 6’4 forward with the skill set to play both the 3 and 4. Simmons had a relatively quiet summer. He does a lot of things well on the court, but he is not elite in any area or as an athlete. JUCO, NAIA, D2, and D3 programs should keep tabs on Simmons.
TJ Jones (Central)- Jones looks the part of a strong post. He is 6’8 with a solid build. This kid screens well, moves well up/down the court, seals hard in the paint, and is unselfish. Jones does not demand the ball on post ups and seems very stoic on the court. If someone can unleash a mean streak in this kid, Central would have a solid big to rely on.
Coleman Barranco (Vestavia Hills)- Yes Coleman is only 5’9-5’10, but he is extremely coachable and does all the little things right. This kid plays hard and competes at a high level every time he touches the floor. Coleman does what his team needs him to do in order to get the win.
Jamal Mott (Huffman)- Mott is an interesting prospect. The point guard from Huffman had some very good showings with the Alabama Celtics over the spring/summer, but he also disappeared at times. This kid has a knack for scoring, but has shown inconsistencies. Becoming more consistent will give Mott more opportunities to stay on the floor for Huffman.
Charlie Morrison (Lindsey Lane)- Morrison is a solid all around player. He’s not the most gifted athlete, but this kid plays hard, moves well without the ball, and plays with a high IQ. Morrison is a really good complimentary player to Tommy Murr. Murr demands everyone’s attention, which opens things up more for Morrison.
