He will hit the occasional floater, occasional outside shot, occasional tricky layup. Meechie’s weakness is shot selection not shot competence. He can shoot. He just takes shots he isn’t prepared for, meaning his legs are not quite set underneath him.
Bowens is wonderfully strong at approximately 165 pounds. His legs give him an advantage on every rebound.
Size for position is the most troublesome physical attribute. With Howard he never plays on the ball. For the Hustlin’ Tigers he is a wing attacker all day every day. Bowens possesses the fantastic quickness needed to defend college guards, but can he facilitate? Can he use his speed to dart into the lane and then kick to a three-point shooter?
Bowens’ explosion, jovial nature, and high motor suggest he can and will play junior college basketball and then build from there. His junior season begins in November.
