As summer ball is now in full swing, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2021 class
Xavier Cushinberry, 6’3, F, 2021, Atchison
A smart player around the basket who stays active and gets buckets. he has a wide frame and place physical on both ends of the floor. He has active hands and looks to block shots pin laughs on the glass and is good at shooting quickly after the catch a few feet from the basket. He can also shoot a nice jumper and operates well at the high post.
David Duncan, 6’0, G/F, 2021, Northwest
A combination player who can stretch the floor as a 3-point shooter then move inside and finish plays around the glass. He has good speed and is smart in transition. he works hard to stay in front of the ball and has good feet and moves well a few feet from the basket as he does along the perimeter. He could easily move into several positions as he’s a versatile player and offensive threat.
Cannon Smith, 6’2, F. 2021, Mulvane
Smith gets back on defense well and is good at moving his feet and staying in front of the ball. He plays physical and he’s good at getting his hand on the ball and finishing plays that some of his teammates may have left open. He passes well and is good at collapsing on the ball and slipping back to the basket weak-side for a layup.
Romao Towns, 6’3, F, 2021, South
A nice body who contributes well on both ends. Towns isn’t a player who is going to score a ton but he is a great hustle player and makes good passes on the low or high post. He can run well and is smart at getting the ball where it needs to be and rebounding and looking to challenge shots.
Alden Knedler, F, 2021, Dodge City
A guy who can handle the ball some and play inside if he has to but is more comfortable at the wing. He shoots well and has a jump shot that is hard to get a hand on because of his high release. He also gets inside and can get to the free-throw line and connect for the bonus. A hard worker on a hard-working team.
