A mixture of local and out of town programs were hand providing high-level, intense action for the spectators on hand. And with nine programs participating, there were plenty of standout performances. Today we recap the top wing and forward performances.
Sammy Barton/Columbus South, C/O 2020- Barton’s combination of size and versatility was hard for opposing teams to handle. The big fella showed good hands, that he can take the ball of the rim and lead the break, good hands and an ability to protect the rim among many other things. If there was a such thing as plus/minus in high school basketball his would have been off the charts.
Rayvon Griffith/Hughes, C/O 2023- Against a very tough Toledo Start team Griffith played some of his best basketball of the day. He showed an ability to shoot the basketball off one or two bounces and with some range, and he worked hard on the offensive boards as well. Add in a few quality passes and its easy to see what the fuss is about with this incoming freshman.
Isaiah Myers/Colerain, C/O 2022- This is a name that you are going to want to keep in your memory bank. Despite being the tallest player on the court for the Cardinals at 6’3, Myers was the primary ball-handler and had a very solid showing. He showed solid passing ability a nice touch from the perimeter and competed hard no matter the score. He has also looks like he has a few more inches to grow as he had some of the smallest feet I have seen on a kid his size.
Greg Stewart/Aiken, C/O 2020- Greg was featured last month on PHO and fortunately for me he made me look like I know what I am talking about. He provided many highlight reel plays throughout the shootout including finishing over the top of a Columbus South defender at the rim (check out my Twitter @wrightone80 for the video). Look for Stewart to be one of the more exciting players, along with top defenders, in the state this season.
