Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top big men in the 17U division.
(Big) 35-Zach Davidson, 6’7, 2020, Augusta, NLHA 17
A big forward who can play through the air and defend the high and low post. He get his hands up and focuses on making smart plays and rebounding. He passes out a lot, even if that means passing up open looks inside if he thinks a teammate is feeling it from distance for the extra point.
(Big) 40-Cory Davila, 6’6’, 2020, Basehor-Linwood, Mokan 2020
A sharp defender who earns his time by contesting shots, scoring underneath the basket and securing rebounds on the defensive end. He finds his man and is good at boxing out then passing ahead to a teammate running the lane in search of an open layup.
(Big) 32-Donnyae Ferguson, 6’6, 2020, Olathe North, KC Premiere Blue Chips 17U
Ferguson has a good stop and pop game. He catches the ball and the high post and looks to score. He can pass well from that spot and looks to the corner and wing spot across the court. He has great size, good length and fine athleticism.
(Big) 43-Omar Stanley, 6’8, 2020, Blue Valley West, Mokan 2020
A strong and aggressive player who is a consistent body on the block. He stays after plays and fights hard to rebound, block shots and come up with plays under the basket. He can score in bunches and is hard to stop when he’s playing above the rim. A player with elite height and strength.
(Big) 8-Elisha Turner, 6’7, 2020, Sunrise Christian, Pray and Play
A strong, physical player who gets to the free throw line and finishes around the rim. He has a lot of strength and can clean up the boards and play through heavy contact. He finishes plays. He can also score well and throw down some powerful plays above the rim.
