1) Scotlandville vs. 8) John Curtis
For most of these matchups, I will be giving a pretty in-depth analysis as far as the games go. However, for this one, it’s not really needed. One of these teams is the absolute best team that Louisiana has to offer. The other team didn’t have a winning record heading into the playoffs. Give me the best team.
Prediction: Scotlandville
4) Jesuit vs. 5) Catholic BR
Now that we have gotten past the 1st analysis, we can get to some real games. This matchup is a really interesting one in my opinion. Both of these teams played against each other earlier this season, with Jesuit getting the win 68-63. However, it has been almost 2 weeks since Jesuit has played a game, and there will definitely need to knock some rust off. On the other hand, Catholic was able to play their first game earlier this week against Evangel. I think that this game is going to come down to the better defense. If 2020 G Kentrell Garnett is able to hold 2019 G Elijah Morgan in check, then I think that Catholic will be able walk away with the win.
Prediction: Catholic BR
Bottom Half:
3) Holy Cross vs. 6) Brother Martin
This is going to be the 3rd matchup of the year between the two cross-town “Catholic League” rivals. Earlier this season, Holy Cross was able to come away with both wins. I don’t see any reason to expect a different result in this game. My guess is that Brother Martin is going to try to limit the amount of possessions in this game, and try to keep both teams from scoring more than a total of 90 points. Even if they do that, I still think that Holy Cross is going to be able to execute well enough at home to win a game under those conditions. I think that they are the much more talented and battle tested team this season, and have 3 of the best 4 players in the game, which is hard to overcome for Brother Martin
Prediction: Holy Cross
2) St. Augustine vs. 10) Archbishop Shaw
This is another pretty easy analysis as far as the playoffs go. One of these teams is really talented, and has a real shot at winning a state championship. The other team doesn’t have a winning record. These two teams played twice in the regular season, and St. Augustine won by an average margin of victory of 38 points. That might be an issue for Archbishop Shaw.
Prediction: St. Augustine
