Hayes talked more about his overall game and gave us an indication of which programs are recruiting him during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: How are your grades right now?
SH: “Recently, in the first trimester, I made high honor roll with a 3.7 GPA. That took a lot of work, but it was good.”
PH: You didn’t play last year, but it seems like you haven’t missed a beat. What were you doing with your year off?
SH: “Even though I didn’t play last year, I still kept working out consistently. Working on my game to prepare for my AAU season with Thrill. They helped me out a lot.”
PH: What are the most improved parts of your game?
SH: “My passing has gotten better. My defense has always been good, but I’m trying to improve my help defense. Setting charges, and I’ve been working on my mid range as well.”
PH: What’s your role on the team this year?
SH: “I’m all around. To be efficient throughout the game. Rebound a little bit. Score maybe 8 to 10 points each game, and get everyone involved. I’m also a defensive stopper.”
PH: What’s underrated about your game?
SH: “Probably my passing.”
PH: What do you need to work on?
SH: “Being more aggressive, more decisive offensively, and not overthinking the game.”
PH: Which schools are you hearing from right now?
SH: “UMBC, Towson, and Loyola have all reached out to me.”
PH: What type of feedback do you get from college coaches?
SH: “Working on my perimeter game, my shot, and my body.”
PH: What are your goals?
SH: “To get my first D1 offer and win the MAC Championship.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
SH: “My defensive energy. I typically shut down whoever I’m guarding.”
