Five Most Memorable Moments: 2019 Sun Bash
The 2019 Prep Hoops Sun Bash was certainly a success. In just its second year of existence, 17 teams from across the state of Florida competed in two brackets, the SUN and BASH as IMG outlasted Miami Christian to win the SUN title and Sickles beat Santa Fe Catholic to win the BASH title.
Here is a look at the top five moments from the week.
1. IMG guard Josh Green throws it down on the break
The Arizona commit was electric in the closing minutes of the final against Miami Christian. Showing why he’s one of the best athletes in the country, Green threw down the hammer as IMG pulled out the scrappy win.

2. Sickles grew up quickly
Graduating seven seniors from a group that won the Class 8A state title in 2017, it was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Sickles. However, the Gryphons polished off three consecutive wins to take home the BASH bracket as they celebrated the win over Santa Fe Catholic to improve to 7-4 on the young season. 2022 guard Javohn Thomas averaged 15 PPG while 2019 guard Julian Canuelas averaged just over 10 PPG and 2020 forward Gary Jones was steady all week averaging close to 10 PPG as well.
3. Micheal Eads really impressed
We witnessed the aggressive Michael Eads this week as the 2020 guard averaged 19.3 PPG for the Eagles. His 22-point outing against IMG on Friday was beyond impressive as he played up to the competition, creating for himself from deep and finding teammates all over the floor. His upside is tremendous.
4. Choctaw seniors shined all week
2019 starters Josh Williams (19.3 PPG) and Diante Smith (19.0 PPG) were as good as they come all week long which included a hard fought effort on Thursday in the semifinal round against IMG. Williams proved he is more than just a flashy point guard with his offensive prowess and Smith, a TCU commit was unstoppable for much of the week.
5. Canterbury had the most impressive comeback of the event
Trailing 32-24 at the break to Palm Glades on Saturday, the Crusaders fought back in the first of an 8-game slate to close out the week. 2021 guard Anthony Perkins hit a game-winning 3 with roughly 30 seconds left to lift Canterbury to a 61-59 victory. It was a scrappy performance all around.
Bonus: NBA G League players Trevon Duval and Brandon McCoy stopped by the Sun Bash on the final night for the championship between IMG and Miami Christian.
