Defense is serious business for Dutchman’s 6-foot-7 forward Cam Bryant, maybe that’s why he’s got a Division I offer and several more could be just on the horizon.
Maybe also it’s his great size and versatility as a combo-forward that have D1’s intrigued. Or his strong desire to improve from the perimeter, particularly his jumper.
“I’m really good at defense, that’s where I get after it the most. I need to improve my shooting off the dribble more, and my 3-point shot,” said Bryant.
“I’m more comfortable as a small forward or wing. I like playing from the perimeter,”
With Dutchtown last season as a sophomore, Bryant posted some pretty good numbers. But he’s looking to improve this season as he takes on a much larger role.
“I put up pretty good numbers last year, but I think I could have done better. I was averaging about 13 points and seven rebounds per game,” said Bryant.
“I’ll need to be more of a leader next year, because we lost eight seniors last season.”
This spring and summer, Bryant has been playing with Nike AOT 16U. He’s been generating a lot of college interest while playing with the high profile squad.
“My offseason has been going great, I’ve got a lot of recruitment going on and I’m improving on my shot every tournament,” he said.
Bryant mentioned Georgia, Princeton, Rice, Southern, Furman and Tennessee State have been showing him some love recruitment-wise. He’s got one offer from South Alabama, which offered in June.
But the main focus this weekend for Bryant, in his final 16U live period event, is simply to get some dubs.
“I’m hoping to go out with a bang and win out,” said Bryant. “I love to win.”
