Team Preview: Southfield Christian
The Southfield Christian basketball program is a powerhouse program in Michigan. Last season they came seconds away from advancing to the state championship game. This season they have the talent to repeat, and even top, last years results.
Head Coach: Josh Baker (7th year coaching at SCS)
2016-2017:
*21-6
*Finished in the Final Four last year
Key wins last year: North Farmington, West Bloomfield, Detroit Cornerstone
Team Outlook for 2017-2018:
Expectations: “Goal is to maximize our potential in all areas of effort, attitude, and coachability. If we do those we will be successful.” -Coach Baker
Areas of concern: “Getting to the line more and not settling for jumpers. Because we have great scorers I want us to make sure that we are also great at ball movement and taking great shots.” -Coach Baker
Best case scenario: “If players know coaches love them, 100% buy in and effort from every player, players who love to be coached and execute, every player improves, and the team loves to play together. If we do that, well be successful.” -Coach Baker
Key returners:
Caleb Hunter (’19)
Bryce Washington (’18)
Harlond Beverly (’19)
Jacob Fergan (’18)
Elijah Hicks (’18)
Key newcomers:
“Daijon Humphrey is a soph and will be in 2nd year as varsity player, we are looking for him to step up and be a great contributor and is one of our best defenders. Rahman Scruggs is a sophomore transfer who will guard and handle the ball and will be a nice addition to the program.” -Coach Baker
Other Young Players To Watch:
Noah Rhekker
Will Harahan
John Sanders
Southfield Christian will continue its winning tradition in 2017-2018. There is Division 1 to Division 3 college basketball talent up and down the roster. An experienced and successful coaching staff will mold them into a championship caliber team. They are the favorite in the MIAC and are aiming at a trip to the Breslin Center.
