Region Preview: Region 1
Region 1 has some very competitive teams. I could see this region going to any of the four teams that I have listed at the top. This should be a fun region to monitor in the first year of Utah having 6A.
Region 1 Preview: Top 4
1. Davis
Davis was led by a balanced scoring attack last year. Although some of those weapons have departed, they return many of them as well. Their depth is going to be a problem for the majority of the teams in this region. In the front court, Davis will feature Rich Stucki and Brendon Redford. In the backcourt, they will be led by Josh Sanders and Tyson Garff. This will be one of the top teams in the state in this upcoming season.
2. Fremont
Fremont will be dealing with the lose of Saxton Morby. However, they were extremely young last year and bring back the core of the team. This group will have another year of experience under their belts and be prepared to have success at the varsity level. A couple of the players to keep an eye on include Cade Hadley and Zach Taylor. Taylor is a double-double machine while Hadley will be the primary playmaker for the team.
3. Layton
Layton has had a couple of good seasons in a row and appear to be on the right track. This region is tough and full of talent. With that said, they bring back a couple of players who will aid them in making the transition. Truman Brown will be one of the best shooters in the region. Further, Skyler Turner will provide good length and toughness for the team.
4. Northridge
Jensen Clifford will no longer be around to take on a much needed scoring role. However, this group should rebound just fine. They are athletic and have other playmakers who can step up and play big roles. A couple of guys that opponents should be aware of are Alec Duffin, Matt Goodrich, and Jovonte Shaver-Wylie. In addition to these three, Northridge had a lot of youth who gained valuable experience last season. The only concern for Northridge at this point is their size. However, they have plenty of skill.
