Louisiana Top250 Expo: Awards
“Mr. Perfect” Game of the Day
Jacoby Decker 5’8 Bossier 2019
The best game far and away cam during the last game of the day from Jacoby Decker. Decker went for 40+ points in a come from behind win for his team, scoring in every way possible. Decker has a sweet shot from deep, and finishes much better in the paint than you’d expect from someone his size.
“From Outta Nowhere” Biggest Stock-Riser
De’Antray Hughes 6’5 Edna Karr 2019
If you’ve read any of our breakdowns from the event, you’ve heard all about Hughes. He had himself a hell of a day, scoring at a high level and throwing down some monstrous dunks. He is also capable of knocking down threes from the corner.
“From Way Downtown” Best Shooter
Tyrease Terrell 6’3 G Northshore 2019
Terrell has a sweet jumper, and he is capable of getting it off from way downtown. I have a bit of a sweet spot when it comes to lefty’s with pretty jumpers, and Terrell definitely falls into that category. He has the size to be able to just shoot straight over a regular closeout, so if you want to affect his shot, you better be shading his side early.
“Kobe” Turnaround Jumper of the Day
TJ Collins 6’3 G Bonnabel 2019
TJ has as good a case as anyone at being named the best shooter in the camp, but I don’t think that best shooter does his game enough justice. TJ can score from anywhere on the court, in a variety of ways. The best way I saw him do it was with a behind the back dribble into a turnaround jumper that hit nothing but the bottom of the net.
“Stop right there!” Hesitation of the Day
Dywan Griffin 6’0 G Landry-Walker 2019
Dywan has some of the best ball handling abilities of anyone on the court, and it is only a matter of time before some high major college coaches start to take notice. One play that comes to mind came in transition from the left corner. Dywan hit the defender with a step back hesitation that completely froze the defender, allowing Griffin to get to the rim wide open.
“Did dis dude just did dis?” Play of the Day
Tylan Pope 6’5 F Franklington 2019
The play of the day came from our MVP of the day, Tylan Pope. Tylan was the lead ball handler in transition, a skill that a year ago there is no way he could have done. Pope was pushing the ball down, and the defender tried to reach, so Tylan had to teach, going behind his back, leaving his defender in the dust. Apparently the next defender didn’t learn his lesson, once again going for the steal, which means that Tylan once again went behind his back leaving him behind. Tylan then makes a pass to the corner for a wide open 3, which his teammate knocks down with ease.
“Hey watch this” Pregame Dunk of the Day
Jamiree Williams 6’3 G Central Lafourche 2018
This award goes to Jamiree Williams, and it isn’t even close. Williams put down one of the most impressive dunks I’ve ever seen from a high schooler, throwing a lob to himself off the ground, before finishing it going between the legs and throwing it down with authority, leaving opponents and teammates alike in total awe.
“Mr. Smooth” Smoothest game
Kalil Thomas 6’3 G Holy Cross 2019
Thomas is a long, silky smooth off guard that can score from all over the court. He has a nice jump shot from deep, and had a very sweet hesitation pull up jumper from the top of the key in transition that only one word can describe: smooth.
“Diaper Dandy” Best underclassmen
Jalen Cook 5’10 G Walker 2020
I have seen Cook at so many camps over the last few weeks, that it’s starting to feel a bit like I’m stalking him. The best part is that everytime I see him, I come away more and more impressed. He can get to the rim with absolute ease and has the strength to finish through contact and over size. He had multiple and-ones at the camp, and at times was virtually unstoppable on the offensive end.
