Recruiting Report: Davin Zeigler (2019)

As a 6’2” score-first point guard, Davin Zeigler (2019) from Cleveland Benedictine, is turning heads early in the grassroots season. Playing with the NEO Shooting Stars, his performance has drawn the interest of three new Division I programs. “Youngstown State, Cleveland State, and the University of Detroit ... They called my high school coach,” Zeigler told Prep Hoops Ohio. However, it’s not just local Division I programs who have expressed in Zeigler’s talent. There’s also an SEC school who is entering the picture with initial interest. “I believe Mississippi State has some interest, but that’s all I know ... My uncle is an assistant coach, so they’ve seen me play a lot.” Interestingly enough, Zeigler did mention that location could be a priority when it comes time to make a decision down the road. “I would want to stay close to home. Wouldn’t really want to go too far off. But it just depends on where the best fit is for me, campus wise and the coaching relationship I would build. It just depends,” Zeigler said. Zeigler, who carries a 3.0 GPA, is going to continue jumping on various collegiate radars going forward. Not only is he one of the finest point guards in Ohio’s 2019 class, he’s also surrounded by other talented players year round. Whether he’s in the gym with Benedictine or NEO Shooting Stars teammates, Zeigler is always being challenged by other future NCAA athletes. “It helps me out a lot. Just like at Benedictine, going up against Ronnie [James], one of the best defenders in the state every day has helped me out a lot. Then with NEO, it’s like the best 2019 players, it helps me out a lot with my game,” Zeigler said.

As we alluded to in the first sentence, Zeigler scores the ball at a high-rate. However, if you ask Zeigler what separates him from other point guards, the answer goes beyond the scoring column. “I just feel like I can do it all. I’m athletic. I can defend. I can pass. I can shoot. I have good handle. Like, I just do everything. There’s nothing I can really not do,” Zeigler said. Also, he’s pretty smart. People have expressed concerns about his score-first style, but he takes the right shots, making his game rather efficient. “I try not to take too many bad shots. If my shots not going, I’ll try to get it to my teammates. Like, I’m a scoring guard first. So if my shot is not really going, I try to get it to my teammates. But if it’s going, I’m going to keep shooting,” Zeigler said. Zeigler is focused on tightening up his shooting ability right now. “My jump shot still needs improvement, so I’ve been working on my jump shot a lot ... Just in general. Off the dribble and catch and shoot,” Zeigler said. "I work out two times a day just to keep my game tight, keep everything tight. And I go to the weight room to get my body stronger." Those interested can catch him running the offense for the NEO Shooting Stars the rest of the summer. He’s an exciting watch, as he plays with a ton of effort and explosiveness. Division I programs will likely continue being in his ear throughout the next few seasons.
