Something to Prove: Christian Montague (2017)
Despite coming up short, Christian Montague, the senior from Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School, displayed a superb, “comeback season”. Montague returned from a torn ACL that took him out the remainder of his junior year. He did not play a lot during the summer league because Chaminade-Julienne knew what it would cost the team if he was not ready. I asked Montague about the work he put in to get back in shape for the season. Christian said,
“I went to a lot of therapy and I was in therapy for six to seven months and you had to take a test to play again and I failed the first time. I went to a program called SNAPP and my trainer Brett and we trained hard. Every Tuesday and Thursday and the days I was not there, I was going to therapy. I stayed in the gym and was working on my jump shot every day.”

He finished going down as one of Chaminade-Julienne’s all-time scorers with more than 1,000 points. For the season he averaged 23.4 points per game. I asked him how he felt about his performance and he said,
“My season I had…I have to give it all to my teammates honestly. If it was not for them, none of this could happen. The season did not end how we wanted it to but I think they gave me a chance to prove a lot of people wrong as well as coming off my injury and even the team with losing players due to transferring. I am ready for the next level. Time to move on to bigger and better things.”
Montague received an offer from Walsh University right after the 76-69 game loss to Dayton Dunbar in the District Semi-Final. This is Montague’s second offer. He says he is expecting to hear from Liberty and Withrop.
Whoever ends up with Montague would have a steal. They will be getting an athletic guard who has no issue with putting the ball in the bucket.
