Recruiting Report: Nate Roberts (2018)
Prince Georges County native Nate Roberts finished up his junior season at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, and is set to play with Team Melo on the EYBL during the grassroots season. Roberts enjoyed a strong junior campaign, and is looking forward to carrying that positive momentum with him into the AAU campaign.
“I’m really versatile,” Roberts stated about his playing style. “Playing both sides of the ball. Being effective in all games. If I’m not scoring well, I can affect the game in different spots.”
Roberts was a standout at the fourth annual Metro Challenge this past weekend, and we saw the versatility he mentioned. The 6-foot-9 lefty is not the best athlete, but definitely a good one. Roberts has a nice middle game, and can get up an down the floor and finish. In the last twelve months, Roberts has gained a tremendous amount of confidence while adding strength.
“Need to build on strength, and work on ball handling,” said Roberts about his areas of improvement. “Being more comfortable with the ball. Becoming more confident with my jump shot.”
Roberts is an underrated shot blocker. He has long arms to go along with great timing, and is also smart about when and how he challenges shots.
“I’ve visited UConn, and Syracuse within the last year,” said Roberts, who sports a 3.25 cumulative GPA. “I’m talking to Syracuse, UConn, Purdue, WVA, VA, Maryland, Xavier, Providence, and Cal the most.”
What can a college program expect from Roberts at the next level?
“Versatility. Being able to guard and play different positions. Stretch it out if I need to. Taking advantage of my mismatches.”
