Continue ReadingThe South Carolina Raptors AAU program produces some of the best guards in the southeast, one of the most noted is Oklahoma State sophomore point guard Jawun Evans. He played high school basketball in Greenville, South Carolina before moving to Dallas, Texas to finish out his senior season. During the summers he honed his skills and his game with Lamont Simmons and The South Carolina Raptors organization.
Raymond WilliamsRaymond “Ray-J” Williams is another guard who has gained exposure and experience in the Raptors system and has gradually improved each season. At Berea High School, Williams is averaging 19.9 points, 3.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game to go with a 20-5 record. Berea will play Chester HS in the second round of the SCHSL playoffs next.
Nicknamed Ray-J, Williams is a guard who knows how to score the basketball and can distribute the ball. He has a knack at getting to the rim and is a defensive stopper. Defense is something that The SC Raptors take pride in and it has helped his game tremendously playing with them.
“North Carolina A&T, that’s about it,” Williams stated referring to colleges that he has heard from recently. With Williams’ wok ethic and playing with a program like The Raptors this summer that will change. “I just want to get better over the summer and get more offers, I really want to develop my jumping ability, ” Williams said regarding this summer.
Jeff Maness, the head coach at Berea High School had this to say about Williams, “Ray J has really grown and matured as a player this year. He’s always been talented but he’s stepped up his defensive play and has become a leader for us. On the offensive end, he’s a constant threat. He can get to the basket and finish, can shoot the 3 and has developed a really good midrange shot as well. He’s just been a great overall player for us.”
