MVP: Jake Smith (2019)- The sophomore is a 6-foot-1 shooting guard who has a really good stroke. he scored 18 points. He is a solid Division II prospect at this point.
Best Rebounder: Marvin Pearson- The Asheville HS big man has a wide frame, athletic for his size and grabs a lot of rebounds. Does of good job of keeping the ball high after rebounds and is skilled at taking contact during the shot.
Best Offensive Player: Jake Smith- Probably one of the better sophmores in WNC, Smith is a smart player, knows the game, has a high basketball IQ and can shoot it. Will be a player to watch over the next 2 1/2 years.
Best Floor Leader: Zion Walker- The quick guard has a nice frame. He looks like a small tailback, he finished with contact, smart and makes the right pass in transition.
Best Unknown: Dante Burnette- I came to this game not knowing Dante Burnette. He is about 6-foot-2 and is long. He passes the eye test. He is a smooth wing that can get into the lane and has a soft touch.
Most Athletic: Jay Walton- Walton is 6-foot-4 and very athletic, he finished an off-balance lay up on the opposite side of the rim with ease. He is long, big shoulders and could turn into a Division II prospect.
Best Senior: Trey Irby- The Asheville High School senior wing/shooting guard does it all for the Cougars. Handles some of the ball duties, has long arms, can finish at the rim, can draw contact in the lane while finishing with either hand. He scored 13 points tonight.
Best Underclassman: Tyrece Thompson- While the freshman only scored 2 points on the night, you can tell he is in for a really good career at Asheville High. He is around 6-foot-1, has a nice frame and sees the floor like a polished senior. He will be one to take a look at if in the area.
Best Shooter: Logan Warren- Warren has a pretty shot and opended the game up with a long three-ball from the arc. He is 6-foot and plays much bigger while most of his time was spent in the lane grabbing reboudns and taking the ball to the lane.
Best Passer: Dalvin Battle- Has great vision in the half-court set or in transition. Strong with the ball in his hands, quick and hard to stay in front of.
