Known mainly for producing NBA player Mitchell Wiggins in the early 80’s (father of current Minnesota Timberwolves star Andrew Wiggins), North Lenoir has been up and down the last few years. However, last season they saw an 8 game turnaround and should expect to continue improving on their success this season.
2017: L’Shawn Davis stood out from the pack, as he should have. In his first season on the varsity, the jet quick poing guard led the team in scoring, assists and steals in route to 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals per game. In the open gym, he showed off an improved pace and leaping ability, driving to the rim for dunks while also looking more his teammates. He also uses his elite speed and quickness to jump in passing lanes and pick pockets in tune to easy fast-break layups where virtually nobody can keep up with him. He’s one of the favorites to compete for Conference Player of the Year in the EC2A Conference. Has several DII schools tracking him.
2020: Freshman Chris Mitchell stands about 6’2” with extremely long arms, deceptive quickness and has the ability to play above the rim in spurts. He was using his length to bother shooters, get deflections and shoot over smaller defenders. Also showed a surprising ability to handle the ball and create his own shot. It’s not clear whether he’ll be a varsity player right away, but the lanky guard is still worth noting.
2017: Senior wing LaDarius Hines also stood out. The burly 6’1” wing showed an improved repertoire to get his shot and has a never ending motor. Despite standing just 6’1”, he’s able to create space inside and rise up for emphatic finishes off the bounce. Coaches love this kind of ballplayer. A really solid glue guy that works his butt off and does all the dirty work.
