C.J. Fredrick Recruiting Update (2018)
Three D1 coaches have been in this week to evaluate Covington Catholic players. The Colonels have three targets on their roster: 2018 Jake Walter, 2017 Cole Vonhandorf, and 2018 C.J. Fredrick.
Wright State, Miami (Oh), and Lipscomb sent coaches in to evaluate the potential college hoopers. Cole is a known quantity to several programs. He has great grades, a 23 ACT, and will outwork anybody.
NKU, DePaul, Winthrop, and Lipscomb have all offered him at one time or another. Belmont was interested, but they are now full for 2017. The combo guard can score or distribute as needed. He is a worker.
Coach’s kid C.J. Fredrick touts offers from: Winthrop, New Orleans, NKU, Ball State, and Miami (Oh). The 2018 guard could hop up into MM territory this winter.
Perhaps the most intriguing is Jake Walter (below left). Walter is the gigantic son of former Cincinnati Bengal lifer Joe Walter (1985-1997).
Pictured above is NFL-veteran Joe Walter with Jake at two years young. He is now substantially larger.
“He has lost 45 pounds in the last six months,” offered Cole VonHandorf’s father. “Nobody knows about him, but he is a hidden gem.
Walter is currently 7’0.5” with the potential to grow another inch or two. He turned 16 last just this summer and weighs “just” 250 pounds. With size 20 shoes, Walter can only be an impact player on the court. His size and power knows no other way.
Lipscomb is intrigued, but his recruitment is merely in its infancy.
Fredrick is considered the sure thing of the trio. Regardless all three will wind up somewhere, probably D1, D1, and ?. Check out Covington Catholic this season as the trudge through a tortuous slate of games.
