Recruiting Report: Demetrius Mims (2018)

<span style="font-weight: 400;">A rising star in Maryland's 2018 class, Poly guard <strong>Demetrius Mims</strong> is looking to add to his current list of Division I offers.</span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">The 6-foot-5 wing picked up two offers last season, and is running with one of the best teams in the region this summer -- so it seems more offers could pour in soon. </span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">He picked up his first offer at the beginning of his sophomore season from St. John's, and later in the season he picked up his second offer from VCU.</span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">He's hearing from a couple other programs now, but it's unclear as to which school might be the next to offer. </span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">“I've been hearing from Dayton a little bit. Their coach has come to see me and my teammate. And besides them I've heard from Maryland, they come to some of our practices and watch us workout,” said Mims. </span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">“I just want to pick up as many offers as a I can. I want teams to see how I can play and how I can impact a game. It'd be nice to have some more options.</span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">Mims says he's become more of a threat offensively over the past season, and he looks to impact a game in any way he can. </span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">“I've become more of a playmaker. And I've been drawing a lot of attention from defenses and I think that makes me more of a weapon because it opens up the floor for the rest of my teammates,” said Mims, who takes pride in his versatility. </span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">“I like the point guard position, but basketball is really not about specific titles to me anymore, it's more about my versatility. I can do what a point guard can do, shooting guard and small forward too. And I can guard any position. It's just really about whatever the team needs me to do.”</span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">He averaged 15 points, 4 assists and 6 rebounds last season with the Engineers, and says his team's unselfish play was something he enjoyed most. </span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">“We all just played together, and I just like playing on a team that shares the ball and that's the best way to play,” said Mims. “That's why we beat so many teams, because we weren't selfish.”</span> &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400;">While running with Team Melo this summer for his 16U season, Mims says he'll embrace a leadership role. </span> &nbsp; “My role is to be the leader on the team and I own up to that role,” he said. “I'm going to be working on the consistency of my jumper, and consistency of my defense.”
