The 6’5″ Lahm gets high marks on the court with his 14.8 points and 8.6 rebounds a game. He also does just as well in the classroom, plus he has a score of 32 on the ACT. That has made him an ideal target for several colleges are the Division II and III levels.
Lahm has drawn interest from schools such as Maryville, Missouri S&T, Millikin, Illinois Weslyan and Illinois College. Lahm says academics will be a big part of his final decision.
“Academics are very important when considering college,” Lahm said. “Basketball will only take me so far, and when I graduate, I need a good job, but I also want to do something I enjoy doing. Finding the college that will help me do that is very important.”
Lahm has been an excellent player in the low post throughout his career at Lindbergh. He has good footwork and a variety of moves that make him of potent scorer inside. His father, Mike Lahm, a 7-footer, was a standout area high school and college player, who has taught his son well on low post play.
What has made him more effective as a senior is that he has extended his shooting range and displayed some dribble-drive moves from the perimeter. That has made Lahm a match-up problem for defenders. After rarely attempting 3-pointers as a junior, Lahm has made 25 treys this season while shooting nearly 35 percent from long distance.
“I’m a tough player to match up with,” Lahm said. “I was raised as a post all of my life with my dad giving me drop step drills ever since I was a kid. But, now I can also shoot the ball and can even take some people off the bounce and get to the rim.”
As Lahm approaches the end of his high school career, he is already putting together his checklist on what he needs to work on before he moves up to the collegiate level.
“Before college, I need to work on being stronger and tougher,” he said. “It’s a much different game at any college level. I also want to work on my speed. Not just overall speed and quickness, but also speeding up my shot and improving my shot as well.”
