The 6’4″ Vandiver has been Bloomfield’s top player while wearing many different hats for Bloomfield. He scores, rebounds, passes, plays defense; whatever is needed for his team to win.
Vandiver’s versatility has gotten him interest from a number of smaller schools, including Missouri Baptist, Central Methodist, Crowleys Ridge and Northern Arkansas.
“I have been working hard on all parts of my game,” Vandiver said. “I play mostly inside, but I’ve really worked hard to improve my outside game. I still want to improve my ball handling.”
Vandiver has the ability to score in a variety of ways. He can score in the low post, but he is also strong on the drive against bigger defenders. He also plays well without the ball as he gets a lot of buckets moving and cutting to the basket. And he can knock down an open 3-pointer when he needs to.
Vandiver displayed his improved perimeter shooting on Bloomfield’s 49-48 victory over a very good Woodland team on Jan. 22. Vandiver drilled a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory. Vandiver finished with a game-high 20 points.
The following week, Vandiver scored a game-high 25 points to lead Bloomfield to a 73-58 victory over Woodland in a rematch that was for the SCAA Conference Tournament championship. Vandiver was able to manuever inside and outside against a tall Woodland front line that went 6’7″ 6’6″ and 6’4.
“It was a huge win for us,” Vandiver said. “We knew going into the tournament that is wasn’t going to be easy, so it was great to win it.”
