Here are some of the top multi-sport athletes who signed this week to play football.
Chase Allen (Nixa): The 6’7″ Allen has been a low-post force for Nixa during the past two years and a part of the talented MoKan Elite 17U basketball team during the summer. Allen is also a talented tight end who received several collegiate offers for his football prowess and signed with Iowa State this week.
Al Young (Cape Girardeau Central): The dual-sport athlete is leading the Tigers to an excellent 2016 basketball season as the team’s leading scorer. Young was also one of the state’s most electrifying performers on the football field as a wide receiver and kick return specialist. Young will stay home and play football at Southeast Missouri State.
Dylan Powell (Hannibal): The 6’3″ 275-pound Powell has been a strong post presence for the Pirates for the past two years. He was also a stalwart offensive guard for the Pirates’ football team that finished 12-1 advanced to the Class 4 state quarterfinals. Hannibal signed with Pac-12 and Rose Bowl champion Stanford this week.
Briley Moore-McKinney (Blue Springs South): The 6’4″ 210-pound McKinney was a starting forward on the Jaguars’ Class 5 state-championship basketball team a year ago. During the fall, McKinney was a big-time receiver of the Jaguars football team that won the Class 6 state championship. He will play football at Northern Iowa.
Tre Williams (Columbia Rock Bridge): The 6’6″ 245-pound Williams is the starting center on a talented Bruins’ basketball team. On the football field, he was one of the state’s top prospects at defensive end. Williams chose to stay home to play for the Missouri Tigers, where he hopes to continue the program’s tradition of developing outstanding defensive lineman.
Harry Ballard (McCluer North): The 6’3″ Ballard is one of the most electrifying athletes in the state in basketball, football and track. He currently leads the Stars in scoring and is a state-champion long jumper in track and field. Ballard has yet to sign his NLI, but he is considering schools such as Iowa State, Illinois and Michigan, where he will play football.
Adam Bax (Jefferson City Helias): The 6’6″ Bax is currently a starting forward on a excellent Crusaders’ team. He is also a talented tight end for the Helias football program that is annually one of the best in the state in Class 4. Bax signed with Central Missouri State.
Ronald Smith (John Burroughs): The 6’3″ senior forward is one of the top players in the Metro League and the leading scorers for the Bombers. On the football field, Smith was a star player on both sides of the ball for the Bombers’ Class 3 state championship team. He scored 15 touchdowns on offense and had seven interceptions on defense. Smith is headed to Columbia University to play football in the Ivy League.
James Jennette (Hazelwood West): The 6’5″ Jennette is the leading rebounder for the Wildcats’ basketball team. He was also a outstanding two-way lineman on the football field for West. Jennette will play football at Ball State next season.
