Clark/Willow Lake: A 21-5 team from a year ago that had ten seniors graduate and all of them contributed. Returning is 6-foot-5 power forward Rory Forest along with seniors Noah Huber (also 6-foot-5) and Braxton Hartley…Two of the five losses were at the state tournament…Went into the state tournament on a 14 game winning streak…The Cyclone annoyance of last year seemed to be St. Thomas More who beat them twice…They will miss the skill and size of Tyson Jenkins who had a big year…
Deuel: A four win team from a year ago they won two games during the Holiday break but then won two more the rest of the season…Only one of the 17 losses were by two or less scores. A lot of blowouts…Biggest man on the varsity last year was 6-foot-3 Preston Homan who was a freshman…Long name last name guards Brandon Longstreet and Breston Tegantvoort grabbed experience as 5-foot-9 sophomores which will be valuable this season…Half of the rotation was seniors but this year the only real senior with a lot of experience will be Sayer Fritz…
Great Plains Lutheran: The Watertown public school had some tough times losing all but two games. They did Waubay twice though…Every loss was by double figures so it was a long season…Only three guys on the team last season where six feet or taller and none of them were bigger than traditional guard size…Lost to the Sioux Valley junior varsity by a big number… Ethan Jaeger is a solid lead guard as well so there is some potential for improvement. Ethan was the leading scorer regularly so he will need some help if they are going to add on to last year’s victory number…
Hamlin: The Chargers won 13 of 24 games in 2014-15 pretty much beating everybody they were supposed to but never really pulling that big upset they were dreaming of. The season ended with a 21 point loss to Sioux Valley…Have a couple freshman to keep an eye on in Johnny Roe and Bryce Williams plus senior Ryden Grantham and junior Danny Strande are solid as well…
Redfield/Doland: The Pheasnats were a game under being.500 squad who struggled to get wins at home oddly enough. Seven of their ten Ws were away from their own building…They won six of seven early in the year (only loss was in overtime) but February was a disaster leading the way to seven losses in the last eight games…The team has to replace a nice scorer in Ephram Albrecht…Senior Carter Klapperich and junior Alan Masat were good second and third scoring options a year ago and now into the top spots along with Collin Klebsch…
Sioux Valley: Went 13-9 last year which is under standards but it’s worth noting that they played a much tougher schedule than most at their level. That said, six of the nine losses were by double figures and some of the games were decisive blowouts the other way…One of the biggest programs in Class A, the Cossacks graduated 6-foot-7 Austin Deibert but still have 6-foot-6 high flying Collin Kramer, up and coming young Trevor Hanson in the sophomore class, and upperclassmen forwards Dylan Hope at 6-foot-6 and Zach Puetz at 6-foot-4….Tayton Vincent is a big guard at 6-foot-3 with a lot of talent but injuries have been the story of his last dozen months. Hopefully he comes back for his junior year healthy and ready to show his ability…Hanson isn’t the only sophomore to watch, Trevor Olson is a top 15 level talent in the state as well…
