Tim Schuring: Iowa Prep Program director
2016 Tristan Bohr, Crestwood, 6’4 F
“Anybody that’s watched Tristan knows the first attribute that sticks out about him is his outstanding athleticism. At one point in time this season he caught the ball on the break, took one dribble to the rim, then laid out and finished on a dunk. He is extremely athletic, he’s an outstanding young-man, likes to lead, has good strength. He’s working hard to develop his perimeter jump-shot and has done a great job with that. Coaches are going to see him as a guy that will be able to get to the rim, grab rebounds, and just do the things you can do from the small forward position. I expect him to have a huge senior year at Crestwood.”
2017 Tristan Kautman, MFL-Mar-Mac, 5’10 G
“He really did an outstanding job for us, both at the point guard position and the wing position. He’s deceptively quick, does a great job at getting to the rim. Even though he was a 16U he did an outstanding job at fitting in and playing well with our 17U guys. He has a little edge to him, which is a good thing. He’ll get after you on defense, and probably one of his top fortes is his passion and love for the game — that along with being just a dead-eye shooter.”
2016 Camry Moore, Waverly-Shell Rock, 5’11 PG
“Camry’s poised for a great year at Waverly-Shell Rock this year. He’s outstanding at getting to the rim, and has a great first step, strong when he’s around the basket. Probably what I’m most proud of when I watch Camry is just his willingness to shoot the ball with confidence from the perimeter, he’s really stepped up that aspect of his game this summer. And I think that’s going to reap benefits for he and his squad at Waverly-Shell Rock this season.”
2016 Nick Ellis, Aplington-Parkersburg, 6’5 C
“Nick’s getting a lot of interest from Division I and Division II football programs, but he’s an outstanding basketball player as well. He’s and undersized post who uses his body really well. He did a great job this summer of learning how to step away from the basket and play with his face to the basket. He probably has one of the highest IQs of any post I’ve ever had as a high school player. He has indicated that basketball in college is a possibility, and I know he was receiving interest from a variety of schools in the summer.”
2016 Micah Martin, Iowa City High, 6’9 C
“Micah is a true post, that’s going to continue to get better. We saw his aggressiveness improve this summer on the offensive end. His biggest asset is he’s just an outstanding shot-blocker. He comes from a great program at Iowa City High, he’s been coached and he understands the game. And as he continues to develop – like most big guys – he’ll have a chance to have an unbelievable career at the next level.”
2017 Chase Larson, Knoxville, 5’7 PG
“Chase plays with a lot of passion, he really competes, and plays bigger than his size. I’d classify him as a scoring point guard that can get to the rim and shoot it from deep. And he’s just an extreme competitor. He’s a coach’s son and he plays like a coach’s son. He’s very diverse with his game. He’s three-dimensional; he can shoot it, get to the rim, and distribute it.”
2018 Seth Moeller, Bondurant-Farrar, 6’ G
“Seth is a combo-guard, and another young-man who has the ability to get to the rim, but also shoot, especially the mid-range jumper. Seth is going to be an integral part of what Coach (Travis) Evans is going to do at Bondurant-Farrar the next couple of years.”
2016 Kyle Schultz, Jesup, 6’5 C
“Kyle’s intriguing. He was one of the most dedicated athletes we had this summer; spends a great deal of time in the weight room, spends a great deal of time developing his game. He’s a stretch-four in a post body, and he did an outstanding job for us developing his skills getting to the rim. He’s just a super young-man, and it will be interesting to see where he lands. I know he visited Upper Iowa at one time, and he’s getting a variety of interest from different levels as well.”
2017 Ethan Wyant, Jesup, 6’ G
“He really competes, has great speed with basketball in his hands, and has a knack for getting to the rim and distributing it when he needs to. Probably the most deceptive part of his game is his ability to shoot the 3-point shot. That’s because he does a great job of getting to the rim, and he doesn’t use it as much as he can because he just doesn’t need to. But I’ve seen a huge amount of growth out of him in regards to his 3-point shot. And he’s another kid I would consider to be a combo-guard.”
